The world is full of incredible, almost magical things. Some landscapes that seem from another planet, animals that appear as taken out of a movie, and oddities that never stop to amaze us. If you are passionate about traveling and like water and peculiar things, you are in the right place! Right here, we will begin a journey through the depths of the water, which hides things that the first time you see them, you will not be able to believe they exist. We will visit statues, stairs, houses, and many more things that, for different reasons, are underwater. There is still a long way to go, and together, we will discover beautiful things, so prepare your boats to sail these magical waters around the world.
Arms coming out of the water
In Venice, as you can see, a pair of giant arms support the facade of the Ca ‘Sagredo hotel. The mega installation is called Support and was created by the Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn. Not only is it beautiful and impressive, but there is also a hidden message in this installation.
It has been built to raise awareness about the effects of global warming. The hands symbolize both construction and destruction. Here's an interesting fact: the artist took the small hands of his eleven-year-old son Anthony as molds for the gigantic installation.
An underwater sign
The following image is far from being a work of art. This sign has been underwater for natural reasons. You might even say that a hurricane is the artist who designed this, and since a hurricane is a severe kind of tropical storm, we wouldn't get in its way.
Hurricanes produce strong winds, heavy rains, and thunderstorms that can cause tremendous damage. Today, this sign has the purpose of indicating that there used to be a street there and that a hurricane had occurred. Nature has created a rather weird view.
An island on top of a ship
The times of war have been unfortunate, but they have left us with many incredible lessons and stories, and here we will share one of them that you may not know. It is an event that occurred during the Second World War.
This warship was the HNLMS Abraham Crijnssen, a minesweeper from the Netherlands who had to escape the Japanese. For this, the crew decided to cut trees and branches from the nearby islands and cover the ship with them until it looked like a small island. The camouflage worked perfectly, and the vessel was able to escape successfully.
These stairs lead nowhere
Swimming is not very easy for most people, and it is even less easy to go up and down underwater stairs. But we must admit that the color of that water looks great and makes us want to swim there for a while.
This place is a water reservoir located in Emmendingen, Bw, Germany, which is perfect for helping to irrigate crops on farmland in times of drought. Its design is incredible, even to use as a model when building a pool for our house.
Is this man stuck at sea?
The open-air art available to the public is one of the things that we like to see the most. Renowned local and national artists' murals, statues, and other works of art embellish landscapes worldwide and attract thousands of tourists.
One of the most impressive could be the sculpture called “The Awakening.”. J. Seward Johnson is an artist known for his unique, unforgettable, and wildly original figures. He has created this giant that emerges from the ground and seems to be trying to escape from his awful destiny.
The mythical city Heracleion
Heracleion was a city at the mouth of the Nile River, which the sea has consumed at an event that still remains a mystery. The town occupied a relevant place in Greek mythology: it was the place that Helen of Troy and her lover, Paris, visited before the Trojan War.
About six kilometers from the current Egyptian coast, on the bottom of the seabed, a wall has been discovered, and behind it the remains of a vast temple of ancient Egypt. The experts found many things: colossal statues, ceremonial vessels, gold, jewels, coins, ancient shipwrecks, and more.
Where do out-of-use subway cars end up?
New York is a highly populated city that generates large amounts of garbage. One of the biggest challenges in this city is handling all this waste in the best possible way. But it seems that they have not yet found an ecological and environmentally friendly way to do it.
The way New York City discards subway cars that are already out of use is quite interesting. They use construction equipment to slide the wagons to shore and drop them into the sea., where their weight will make them sink. This photo shows how these wagons dumped at sea look after several years.
A human mistake almost caused a flood
The Harbor Tunnel, designed by Peter Johnson, is located southeast of downtown Baltimore, Maryland, and connects to Interstate 895. This tunnel suffered a minor inconvenience some time ago that left passing drivers very surprised.
What happened was that a team was testing equipment inside the tunnel, and inadvertently, a valve for one of the fire lines opened, causing a large amount of water to begin to enter the tunnel. It was not a technical failure; it was just a human mistake.
This shark almost looks real
Divers are highly skilled and trained professionals who operate underwater for long periods of time. These people must have extraordinary stories to tell since there are hundreds of incredible things in the depths of the ocean, just like the following one.
A group of divers who dove through a Swiss lake were shocked to find this macabre statue. As you can see in the image, it is a massive statue of a shark with a mouth full of teeth that looks like it's about to attack.
A dangerous mine
The small rocky reef at the tip of the Sibley Peninsula in northwestern Ontario, Canada, is rich in silver, but extracting this precious metal is a huge challenge. Danger and adrenaline are the protagonists of this incredible place. Let's find out why!
Nowadays, there is still a little silver that can be extracted from this mine submerged in water. But, this great lake is incredibly unpredictable and extremely dangerous. So if you want to play treasure hunt, you'd better not do it there.
Ghost town
The possibility of visiting a medieval ghost town that appears from time to time only for a short period attracts tourists and causes us a lot of excitement. It is a unique sighting that few are lucky enough to experience.
Fabbriche di Careggine dates back to the 12th century and was the residence of about 150 people at some point in the past. But one day, the town was flooded, its inhabitants had to be moved to a nearby village, and a new artificial lake known as Vagli emerged.
Stairs that lead to hell
Stairs can be a bit scary, especially when you need to go up or down in the dark. Perhaps, we owe that to the number of horror movies we have seen, where the protagonists always find something terrifying when going up/down the stairs.
But these stairs are scarier than usual. Who dares to go down there? These stairs lead down to flooded machinery deep in a mine. We're definitely not going to try it cause there's no good reason to risk our lives there. So please let's continue our journey and get out of here!
Diving through a plane
Some people fear airplanes. Statistics show that one in three people is afraid of flying, which is known as aerophobia. This fear usually comes from knowing that, on the one hand, if there is an accident, we have very little chance of staying alive, and, on the other hand, we know that we can't control the situation.
But does anyone here know what the name for the phobia of diving inside a sunken plane in the depths of the sea is? Just looking at the image already gives us goosebumps.
An underwater museum
The Underwater Museum of Art is a non-profit organization based in Cancun, Mexico, and is dedicated to the art of conservation. In November 2009, they placed around 100 statues in the shallow waters of the National Marine Park in Cancun.
The Cancun Underwater Museum of Art is one of the most fantastic tourist attractions in the world. You cannot miss it if you go on vacation there! The museum will one day be a large artificial ecosystem with different types of fish and marine life.
Serpent d'océan
In the estuary of the Loire River, in the town of Saint-Brevin-Les-Pins, France, is a spectacular work of art created by Huang Yong Ping, who completed it in 2012. The skeleton of a giant snake rises from the water. It is really impressive!
Serpent d'océan is a 130-meter sculpture and is part of the Estuaire public art collection that anyone can enjoy along the 60 kilometers of the estuary. The aluminum skeleton of the snake is periodically covered and uncovered by the tides.
The last house on Holland Island
This picture is not from a fairy tale. Holland Island is located in the Chesapeake Bay on the Holland Strait, between Bloodsworth Island and Smith Island. The island was inhabited by sailors and farmers in a growing fishing community.
But over the decades, the bay's rising waters and the land's natural subsidence have consumed the island. The last house on Holland Island remained rebellious for over a century until its collapse in October 2010.
The dishes remained perfectly organized
To be honest, what caught our attention the most about this place is how is it possible that the dishes stayed in their place and remained perfectly organized? Things are always falling in our house; perhaps the solution is to immerse them in a bit of water.
Although this could undoubtedly be SpongeBob's house, it is actually the inside of a shipwreck in Lake Superior. This place's state is almost perfect; it even looks like it's ready for tea time. Perhaps it is better to have tea somewhere on the shore.
Remains of a war
Unterseeboot is the name given to German submersibles and submarines since the First World War. People were terribly afraid of these formidable weapons during the war. Some really hard battles happened in the depths of the sea.
The German submarines reached a high degree of technical development and attack capacity. They have built various models of submarines, and each one had a symbol of its flotilla, crew, or the ship itself drawn on its sail. There is a lot of history down there.
The damage hurricane Sandy caused New York
In 2012 New York City experienced what has been described as the most significant disaster to its mass transit system in more than a century. There were also catastrophic losses in the local economy. All this was due to Hurricane Sandy making landfall on the coast of the state of New Jersey, United States.
Experts have called this hurricane “Frankenstorm.” You can imagine why. Can't you? Since this hurricane, concern has grown that large storms like Sandy could become more common if the surface temperature of the Atlantic water continues to rise.
A unique tower
Although this looks like an amusement park, it is actually an underwater escape training tank. Did you know that something like this existed? The world is full of incredible things, and this is one of them. This place was created between 1949 and 1953.
The Submarine Escape Training Tank is a 100 ft (30 m) deep facility operated primarily to try out submarine escape equipment used by the Royal Navy. The tower was also leased privately to civilian diving clubs for recreational diving and dive training.
The Titanic
We all know the incredible story of the Titanic. This immense ship was built in two years; it sailed for four and a half days, and, after hitting an iceberg, it sank in two hours and 40 minutes, taking more than 1,500 lives with it.
This is how the Titanic looks 107 years after it sunk. While parts of the wrecks are in surprisingly good condition, other parts have already disappeared. The wreckage of the British ship is being lost at sea, and yet, this ship continues to create history.
The World Discoverer is still waiting to be saved
The World Discoverer, as its name suggests, was a scout ship. It had traveled the world, and a treacherous reef brought the vessel to its end when it traveled through the Sandfly Passage. The ship has been on Nggela Island since 2000, after hitting a large rock or an unexplored reef.
The ship has been waiting to be rescued for years, while the population has been looting everything they have found useful. After transporting all the passengers to a ferry, the captain took the ship to Roderick Bay and put it ashore to avoid sinking.
Artificial reefs
Artificial reefs are structures or sets of structures submerged to a certain depth with the idea of promoting and protecting marine ecosystems and combating degradation caused by human hands. Depending on the type of element that is submerged, the benefits will go in one direction or another.
The Riot Games MOBA tank already rests in the form of a reef, specifically a giant statue, at the bottom of the Australian sea, thanks to a project carried out by Riot Games and the support of the ocean giant's League of Legends community.
A statue of Neptune lures tourists
Neptune is the son of Saturn and Ops. Therefore, he is the brother of Jupiter and Pluto. The sovereignty over the three kingdoms of the universe was divided between these three gods: earth and sky, sea and the underworld. Neptune seized power in the ocean.
In 2001, the god of the sea was placed on the beach of Melenara, in Gran Canaria, Spain; the great Neptune, who at 4.20 meters high, gives an extra advantage to that beach. The statue stands in the middle of the ocean and is a great tourist attraction.
An oil rig lost at sea
Do you know what an oil rig is? It is a large structure whose function is to extract oil and natural gas from the deposits of the seabed that will then be exported to the coast. One of them is Berkut, in Russia's Pacific, the world's largest platform.
The oil rig of the company Transocean Winner was moved from Norway to Malta dragged by a tugboat when a strong storm surprised it in the middle of the ocean, in the area of the Western Hebrides islands. The gale broke the chains that bound it to the ship, and the immense mass of 17,000 tons was left adrift, at the mercy of the wind.
How they get rid of old ships
One of the best ways to go on vacation is to relax in the middle of the ocean on a beautiful cruise ship. Fun and adventure are guaranteed. Traveling on a cruise ship is a different experience that allows you to get to know the sea and other parts of the world in a single trip.
Unfortunately, some cruise ships have to retire and say goodbye to the waters. As you can see in this image, they are dismantling this huge cruise ship so they can scrap metal to sell many of its interior pieces and cabins to hotels.
A town flooded by toxic waste
Do you want to hear a creepy story? Once upon a time, there was a small town in Transylvania, Romania, where people lived happily in the Apuseni Mountains in Geamana. But something happened and completely destroyed the tranquility of the small town.
This town in western Romania was flooded by toxic waste from a copper quarry. The narrow tower of a 19th-century church rises upright in the center of a completely poisonous lake. It is estimated that about 15 million euros of investments would be needed to repair the ecological damage in the area.
Living in the ocean
The life of a sailor is full of adventures and surprising anecdotes. The ocean is a world apart that can go from being the best host to your worst enemy. Once navigating, it isn't easy to know what future awaits you.
But not everything is dangerous and stressful out there. Sailors also know how to have fun and have a great day. There is nothing better than taking a dip and a little swim under the warm sun. Who wants to apply for a job onboard?
A car stuck underwater
At this point, we know that one can find all kinds of things under the seas throughout the world. And luckily, some incredible photographers captured the best moments to show us the most unbelievable situations. And they clearly deserve an award for it.
The photographer who took this photo was one of the 2018 Underwater Photographer of the Year contest winners. He photographed this car in Lake Saimaa, Finland, and cut a 20-meter hole in the ice to access it.
A buried church
The ruins of this magical place strive to remain visible. And apparently people can see these ruins due to climatic changes. Here, in the church of San Isidro Labrador, a lot of unforgettable memories are buried.
The Potosí town of the state of Táchira, in southwestern Venezuela, was flooded in 1984 by the construction of a dam. In 2016, a cemetery started resurfacing, after a drought attributed to the El Niño phenomenon.
Mines – the invisible enemy
During World War II and in postwar local maritime conflicts, the use of naval mines demonstrated their increasingly important role in mission fulfillment. Russian naval mines are unequaled for their performance characteristics, reliability, and ease of handling.
The naval mines were a great invisible enemy. These forced the submarines and surface forces to move away from the coastline. And they were defensive weapons; that is, they only attacked those who attacked the maritime borders of sovereign States.
A 40-meter deep swimming pool
This place is every pool fan's dream! The Millepini Terme hotel, located in a small town in Italy, has a 40-meter deep swimming pool. Perhaps its depth is difficult to imagine, but it is equivalent to a 14-story building to give you an idea. Do you dare to swim in it?
This depth can be a bit scary, but at least you know that you will not hit your head against the ground if you take a dip! The pool's name is Y-40 Deep Joy, and it is 21 meters long by 18 meters wide, with a total of 4,300 cubic meters of water.
USS Speigel Grove is not for beginner divers
The USS Spiegel Grove is often a diver's favorite wreck to dive in and probably the most intimidating too. Experts say that the descent in the Spiegel Grove is not for a beginner diver. So before visiting it, you must practice a little.
The Spiegel Grove was named after President Rutherford B. Hayes's Ohio estate, and it was sunk in 2002 in 130 feet of water near Dixie Shoals in Key Largo. She lies face down on the seabed, leaving her bow protruding slightly from the ocean and her stern resting on the ocean floor.
A sea dragon
Imagine that you are swimming in your local lake, enjoying a beautiful day. You swim for a while and then decide to dive in and swim a few meters underwater when suddenly a strange and terrifying creature appears out of nowhere.
Although it looks like a living monster, this is simply a dragon-shaped sculpture found in Lake Neuchâtel, Switzerland. So now you know, if you ever have the opportunity to visit that lake and want to swim in it, prepare yourself to meet this creepy creature.
A nuclear submarine called Project 941 Akula
You already know that we're not too fond of stairs in water very much, and this staircase is even worse. At first glance, it looks like an underwater prison and is quite scary, but in reality, it is not. Say hello to Project 941 Akula.
Project 941 Akula is one of the largest nuclear submarine in the world. The Akula class consisted of 6 operational submarines, which were dismantled or are in the process of being dismantled.
Meet creepy Jason under water
A psychopathic character from a horror movie plus the depths of a lake? No thanks, we don't need any more details. Who comes up with something like that? It doesn't matter if you saw the movies or not; anyone who goes swimming in this lake will want to cry.
Diver Zachary Nagy dived to the bottom of a lake in Arizona several times in the span of a few weeks to place this Jason Voorhees statue. The statue has been underwater since 2018, and people who scuba-dived in Lake Pleasant discovered it.
The largest ship in the world (until 1955)
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you see something so huge floating on water? It is incredible that something so immense does not sink; no matter how many technical explanations people give us, we find it difficult to believe it.
USS Midway was an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, considered the largest ship in the world until 1955. It was in service for 47 years, ceased to operate in 1992, and is currently a museum ship in San Diego, California.
A submarine to Atlantis

During this family-friendly adventure, you can learn about the fish, coral, and other animals of this marine habitat through informative commentary from a guide. You will descend 30 meters below the surface of the water without getting wet!
A boat that is designed to look like it's sinking
The originality and creativity of people are some of the things that we love to witness the most. People create incredible and original things that are meant to be shared. This fantastic boat, for example, appears to be something that it is not.
This boat that you see in the image is not sinking but was actually made to look like it; it is the creation of the French artist Julien Berthier. This incredible creation has the name Love love, and it could not be more original and fun!
A christ statue submerged in the sea
The story of the Christ of the Abyss is not really known and very surprising. The world is full of religious images, but not all of them are as original as this one. This statue is submerged in the sea, giving a spectacular effect that surprises all those who dive there.
This statue was placed at the bottom of the sea in the bay of San Fruttuoso in the 50s and is still preserved. Built by sculptor Guido Galletti, this is a bronze statue of Jesus of Nazareth, placed 25m deep.
Taking photos underwater
People all around the world dare to dive into great depths and dare to approach huge boats, can you believe it? They have so much courage that they even take fantastic photos while down there as if they did that every day of their life.
My place under the boat, by photographer Matej Bergoc, was taken in a remote bay on the island of Solta. The photographer said it has been challenging for his girlfriend to sit under the boat and pose without any additional weight.
A great show on top of a lake
Bregenz Festival is a cultural festival that takes place every July and August in Bregenz, Austria. The main attraction of this festival, founded in 1946, is a stage located at the largest lake in the world. The stage is where the performance takes place.
This image shows the stage construction for the opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi on Lake Constance. We highly recommend this extraordinary show, so if you have the opportunity to go and see it, don't think twice! The music and the landscape will blow you away!
The wreckages of the Titanic
We already talked about the ship itself, but now let's talk about what's left of it. Many researchers have reconstructed the remains of the Titanic to understand what did the final hours of the famous ship and its passengers look like. As we mentioned, the Titanic is in severe decay caused by corrosion from salt and metal-eating bacteria, and the future of the wreckage is to continue to deteriorate over time.
The majestic Titanic was equipped with two lateral propellers and a central one. The photo shows how one of the Titanic's propellers looks nowadays, as it lies on the bottom of the ocean and will soon disappear.
A sunken cargo ship
The research vessel Hercules RPM Nautical Foundation discovered the Italian freighter Probitas, built-in 1919, in the Ionian Sea of Albania. it sunk after an air attack off the coast of Santi Carant in 1943. Let's see how it looks nowadays!
Taken by photographer Fation Elder, the Italian cargo ship can be seen lying deep in the sea. The wreck is at a maximum depth of 20 m, just 300 m from shore. If you want to visit it, you have to know that diving equipment and skills are essential.
An abandoned flooded dredge
If a character in a horror movie went downstairs in this place, you would probably think that no one in their right mind would go down to a place that looks like this. But we, as we are very courageous, will do it, will you come with us?
This abandoned dredge in Michigan invites us to run to the opposite side. Its gloomy staircase, rusted metals, and dark water are worthy of an appearance in a horror movie. If you want to do a chilling excursion, this is the right place.
